Miami, FL, 02 October 2024.– The Connected Caribbean Summit 2024 is proud to announce The Hon. Dickon Mitchell, Prime Minister of Grenada and the Chair of CARICOM, as the keynote speaker for this year’s event, set to take place between December 9 and 12 in Miami. Under the theme, “Collaborating for Caribbean Solutions,” Prime Minister Mitchell will address the gathering on the subject: “Action Time – Accelerating Caribbean Integration and Development.”
The Connected Caribbean Summit, now in its third year, brings together regional leaders, policymakers, business executives, and technical experts to discuss strategies for accelerating digital development and economic integration across the Caribbean.
The highly anticipated contribution from the Grenadian Prime Minister will set the stage for meaningful dialogue and action at the action-oriented Summit, according to Bevil Wooding, co-organizer of the Connected Caribbean Summit and an internationally recognized technology leader and pioneer.
“Prime Minister Mitchell’s demonstrable leadership and vision for a more integrated and prosperous Caribbean makes him an ideal keynote speaker for this year’s Summit,” said Wooding. “His insights will be crucial as we work towards practical solutions for some of the most pressing challenges facing the region.”
Joining Prime Minister Mitchell are other esteemed speakers, including Dr. Didacus Jules, Director General of the OECS Commission; Rodney Taylor, Secretary General of the Caribbean Telecommunications Union; Dr. Kevin Blake, Jamaica Commissioner of Police; John Curran, CEO/President of the American Registry for Internet Numbers (ARIN); Ms. Bernadette Lewis, Secretary General of the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organization; Ms. Petipha Lewis, Chair of CARICHAM; Mr. Nigel Edwards, CEO of the Unit Trust Corporation; Ms. Sonya Gill, Secretary General of the Caribbean Broadcasting Union; and Dr. Curtis Charles, Director of Academic Affairs, University of the West Indies, Five Islands Campus.
Rodney Taylor, Secretary General of the Caribbean Telecommunications Union and a Summit co-host, emphasized the significance of collaboration, saying, “Digital transformation cannot be achieved in silos. We need to share resources, align policies, and work together across national borders if we are to realize the full potential of a connected Caribbean”, affirmed the CTU Secretary General.
Petipha Lewis, Chair of CARICHAM and a co-host of the event, noted, “the Summit provides a unique platform for dialogue and action. CARICHAM believes that businesses and governments must work hand-in-hand to create the environment needed to foster innovation, entrepreneurship, and regional economic resilience. “This Summit is an invaluable forum for CARICHAM members to strengthen those partnerships”, added Lewis.
The Connected Caribbean Summit 2024 is designed to be a pivotal event for the region, providing an opportunity to turn ideas into action and strengthen the digital, economic, and social connections that bind the Caribbean together.
